The stamp highlights Norfolk Island’s historic connection with the company that is celebrating its 85th birthday. The first P&O cruise from Sydney was in 1932 to Norfolk Island. P&O’s first cruise out of Sydney was made by the luxurious 23,000gt Strathaird on December 23, 1932, when she sailed on a five-night voyage to Norfolk Island. P&O Cruises Australia’s president Sture Myrmell, who is also president of Carnival Australia, said it is a great honour for Pacific Explorer, the flagship of Australia’s home-brand cruise line, to be the first P&O ship to feature on an Australia Post stamp.
