The series “Contemporary Photographer” continues in 2019 with Valérie Belin. Born in 1964 in Boulogne-Billancourt, she lives and works in Paris today. From 1983 to 1988 Valérie Belin studied art at the National School of Fine Arts in Bourges; She then studied art philosophy at Panthéon-Sorbonne University in Paris, where she obtained a degree in 1989.
From her early years of study, she turned to a practice of photography marked by taking into account the intrinsic properties of this medium, which leads to engage in a deepening of its aesthetic potential.Since then, Valérie Belin’s work has constantly evolved, always in phase with the evolutions of the photographic medium that she uses: where previously it was only a question of analogy, it will be more a question of calculation, of intention, manipulation, information, printing … This is how the artist will put to the test all the devices that are offered to her today by the treatment of tones and colors, solarization, superposition, saturation, accumulation, causing a visual and semantic shock that resolves in the fusion of forms and metamorphosis.
The series Black Eyed Susan, whose work Calendula (Marigold) illustrates the stamp, results from this implementation.
